Why
diets tend not to work
Most diets are not easy to
maintain and this is the cause of their failure.
Weight
gain is caused mainly by consuming more calories in a day than is
needed. Dieting creates a temporary loss but as soon as the diet ends
we tend to go back to our old eating habits and back comes the weight.
If
say you weigh 150 pounds you would burn about 1800 calories whilst
resting and maybe another 200 calories by doing your every day chores
like walking, housework etc you need 2000 calories per day.So then if
you consume and store 2050 calories daily this is 50 more than it needs.
Over a period of
70 days this equates to 3500 calories which in turn adds
up to one pound.
Continue
this for one year and you would gain five pounds. So you see how easy
it is to gain weight over a short time by consuming a few extra
calories per day. Just check how many calories there are in that
chocolate biscuit you are about to eat.
So
now you go on that diet and stick rigidly to your calorie intake add
this to a few more physical exercises for a period of two months and
wow you lose 20 pounds. Feeling mighty pleased with yourself you end
the diet, go back to your normal eating habbits and pile on the
pounds. You have failed because you don,t have a sustainable plan that
let,s you live
a normal life.
